The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled 21-year-old forward Beau Bennett.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Beau Bennett from the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Thursday morning.
Bennett currently leads the the Baby Penguins with 18 assists and is fourth on the team in total points with 25. In addition, he has also accumulated seven goals in 35 games this season.
Originally chosen with the No. 20 overall selection in the 2010 NHL Draft, Bennett was named to the AHL All-Star game in January but was unable to participate due to injury.
The 21-year-old forward had impressed Pittsburgh during the week-long training camp leading up to the 2013 season. Receiving time on the team’s second line with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, it was reported that Bennett was competing with Eric Tangradi for a spot on the roster.
Given Bennett’s contractual versatility and Tangradi’s need to clear waivers to move to the AHL, the club elected to assign Bennett to Wilkes-Barre.
Following the trade of Tangradi to Winnipeg on Wednesday afternoon, it appears as though Bennett will get another chance to crack the Penguins’ lineup.
