2013 Coaching Staff

Team Northwest continually strives for excellence in providing our players with challenging drills, competition and overall experience. Our passion for excellence is further delivered by the outstanding coaches that have embraced our program. This year we continue to demonstrate that passion and we are excited to announce the 2013 coaches!

1995/96 Team Chad Johnson~ Chad Johnson enters his third season as the Head Coach and GM of the Lincoln Stars, after leading the team to the top of the USHL’s Western Conference during the 2011-12 regular season, and the 3rd best overall record in the 16-team league.
Johnson began his coaching career in Lincoln during the Stars’ inaugural season, where he served as assistant coach to his brother, Steve, and helped lead the team to a Clark Cup Championship. He remained with the Stars for two more seasons before heading to the America West Hockey League’s Helena Gold Rush (1999-2000) and Minot Muskies (2000-2001) as head coach and GM, and subsequently to the North American Hockey League’s Bismarck Bobcats (2001-2005) and Fargo Moorhead Jets (2005-2008). Johnson spent two seasons (2008-2010) with the USHL’s Fargo Force. He helped lead the Force to two consecutive Clark Cup final appearances under Dean Blais (2008-2009) and Steve Johnson (2009-2010).
Scott Pionk ~ coached Water Loo Black Hawks and Omaha Lancers USHL. This is Scotts 4th year with Team Northwest.
1997 Team Blaine Boyle ~ Coached Central Texas Black Hawks NAHL. This is Blaines 7th year coaching with TNW.
John Fritsche ~ Played pro- Switzerland, AHL-Moncton Jets, USA National Team- World Championships, Coached- Cleveland Barons NAHL, Coached/GM – Alpena Icediggers -NAHL, Ohio Blue Jackets-USHL, Coach/GM- Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks N3HL- U16-U18
1998 Team Rod Aldoff ~ Hailing from Lethbridge, Alta., the 42-year-old Aldoff is an alumnus of the Canadian Junior Hockey League where he played defence for the Melfort Mustangs (SJHL) for two seasons, from 1989-91. From there he went on to earn a NCAA scholarship wearing the Maroon and Gold of the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. He skated at UMD for four years in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association before moving on to a 15-year professional career in both North America and Europe. After his playing career he starting his coaching career as Head Coach/GM of the Wisconsin (Minnesota) Wilderness of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, where he won three league championships, amassed a coaching record of 145-15-8 and this year winning the Dudley Hewitt Cup, (Central Canada Championship) and a birth in the RBC Cup (National Championship Tournament).
Mike Hensdell ~ 15 years experience Professional hockey instructor, coaching private lessons–learn to play hockey instructor for child thru adult players. Top US Juniors including WHL and USHL prospects, also worked with players in AJHL and Nor-Pac. Assisted Puget Sound Kings Junior B and Eastern Washington University. Power Skating Instructor/Bobcats AAA Season Staff Power Skating Instructor
 1999 Team  John Kosbud~ played in AHL, Springfield Falcons, youth hockey coach and instructor. This is Johns 5th year coaching with Team Northwest.
Max Mobley ~ Max played for University Saint Lawrence, Division 1. Max set a scoring record for the North Iowa Outlaws in the NAHL. Max played in five leagues over the course of his career.AWHL, FHL, ECAC – DIV. 1, NAHL, SPHL. Max is a Team Northwest alumni and this will be Max’s 3rd year coaching for Team Northwest.
 2000 Team Sean Whyte~ Played for LA Kings/NHL, Phoenix Firebirds/DYHA youth hockey coach and director. This is Sean’s second year with Team Northwest and continues to show his passion for the sport of hockey and developing future hockey players!
Mike Goldberg ~ Play by play announcer for Detroit Redwings, Minnesota Wild and ESPN 2. Mike has played hockey as well as coached youth for over 12 years. This is Mike’s 2nd year with Team Northwest.
 2001 Team Mike Neil~ Played NY Islanders. This is Mikes 3rd year with Team Northwest.
Pete Stauber~ Played Lake Superior State CCHA and Redwings AHL. This is Petes 2nd year with Team Northwest.
 2002 Team Tim Newlin~ Coached Davenport University, youth hockey coach. This is Tim’s 3rd year with Team Northwest! Tim has been an instrumental coach in Arizona youth hockey with many championships behind him.
Scott Patrick~ Scott is currently and has the past two seasons been the asst. coach and goalie coach for the 2002 spring/ summer SC Viper AAA hockey team, also with the Squirt Jr Musketeers AA winter team this past season. He also acts as the team doctor for both teams. He is a Chiro Physician and partner with Tri State Physicians & Physical Therapy. Scotts coached varsity high school football, hockey, and track in the past. In his spare time, he does some scouting for Craig Patrick( Austin Bruins). He is married, has three sons and a daughter All three boys will play hockey this upcoming season at the tyke, mite& peewee levels.
 2003 Team  Jarrod Olson~ Olson rounded out his playing career after 4 seasons with the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Olson has served in a number of coaching capacities in the past 18 years, Jarrod is currently in his 9th season as Program Director for the Minot Hockey Boosters, 3rd season as an Assistant Coach with the Minot Minotauros (NAHL).  His commitment and leadership abilities will be of the utmost value to the Tauros organization.  Prior to moving back to Minot he worked for 3 seasons with the Phoenix Polar Bears where in 2003 they won a Tier 3 Junior A National Championship and 1 season with the Central Texas Blackhawks(NAHL). Jarrod serves as the NW District Director for North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association. Jarrod resides in Minot with his wife Missy and Daughter Madeline (12).
Jimmy McGroarty~ Jimmy is currently the assistant coach for the Lincoln Stars, USHL, has been head coach for Lincoln also and assistant for Omaha Lancers, USHL. He’s played in the WCHL and ECHL.
